This luxury two week tour heads to some rarely visited areas including the vineyards and canyons of southern Brazil. The trip begins at Iguassu Falls with a guided tour to the Argentine side of the falls with a ride on the Gran Aventura speedboat where you will get very wet! You will fly south to Porto Alegre and continue north to the heart of the Brazilian wine growing region around Bento Goncalves. Here you can have two days exploring the vineyards and trying some excellent sparkling whites for which Brazil is making a name in the industry.

The trip continues north to the Canyonlands of the Serra Geral where you will have the chance to relax or explore the canyons and then continue onto the Santa Catarina coastline to the beautiful bay of Praia do Rosa, where between June and November huge pods of Southern Right Whales appear and can be seen close to shore.

The trip finishes in style with a few days in the Marvellous City of Rio de Janeiro in luxury accommodation and tours of the city before your homeward flights.

It’s a great mix of adventure, luxury, wildlife and wine!

Itinerary

Day 1 – Iguassu Falls

Fly overnight to Foz do Iguacu where upon arrival a private guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel.

The remainder of the day is then free for you to explore the falls independently. Just follow the walkways from outside of your hotel which provide you with direct access.

Day 2 – Iguassu Falls

After breakfast you will be met a private guide for a full day tour of the Argentinean side of Iguazu Falls which offers a completely different view of the falls. Once in the national park there are two ecological trains which are perfect to take you around the parks attractions taking you eventually to the Devils Throat Station for the best close up view of the falls. During your visit you can also experience a speedboat ride on the Gran Aventura boat which takes you to the base of the falls and gets you very wet! (Dry bags are provided)

Day 3 – Vale dos Vinhedos

Today your guide will transfer you to the airport for a flight to Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande so Sul.

On arrival a private driver will transfer you to the town of Bento Gonçalves in the heart of the Vale dos Vinhedos where you can stay for the next 3 nights in the best hotel in the region.

Days 4-5 – Vale dos Vinhedos

Two full days exploring the various vineyards surrounding Bento Gonçalves in the Vale dos Vinhedos.

During your time in this area we will meet the local producers of the wines and lunch and dinner will be included.

The picturesque Vale dos Vinhedos is located 120km northwest from Porto Alegre, in the Italian-influenced Serra Gaúcha. The best wines in Brazil are produced in this valley, especially those produced by the micro wineries that never reach the supermarkets. A strong immigrant culture is visible in the whole region and on the Caminho de Pedra route you can find many farmhouses from the 19th century with typical stone cellars.

During these 2 days we will visit a different vineyard in the morning and the afternoon from the vineyards of Miolo, Lidia Carraro, Vallontano, Casa Valduga, Alma Única and Pizzato.

Days 6-7 – The Serra Geral

Today you will check out and venture further north and cross the state border into Santa Catarina, heading to towards the Serra Geral where you can stay the next two nights. The journey takes about 5 hours.

The following day will be free for you to relax in the hotel or explore the canyons of he Serra Geral, a spectacular area with excellent trekking opportunities.

Days 8-9 – Praia do Rosa

Today you will continue further north in the state of Santa Catarina and to the beautiful bay of Praia do Rosa which is one of Brazil’s top surfing destinations as well as being the best place in the country to see Southern Right Whales.

Between June and November each year the southern coast of Santa Catarina becomes the stage for an amazing natural spectacle, with the arrival of the Southern Right Whales. Escaping the Antarctic winter, they migrate north in search of warmer and calmer waters for reproduction and nurturing of their young calves. In the small, half-moon shaped bays of Santa Catarina, they come very close to the shore and on clear days they can be seen from your hotel room or the beachfront.

If you are visiting during these months then we can arrange a boat trip out into the bay for a close up view of these giant mammals.

Day 10 Florianopolis / Rio de Janeiro

This morning you will check out and your guide will take you north to Florianopolis airport for a flight to Rio de Janeiro where you will head to the southern beaches of the city for the next 3 nights.

Day 11 Rio de Janeiro

This morning you will be taken on a tour to Corcovado, the mountain on top of which sits the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer looking out over Rio and towards the bay. On a clear day the views from the top are nothing short of sensational.

Day 12 Rio de Janeiro

This morning depart on a tour of one of Rio’s iconic landmarks, Sugar Loaf Mountain. There are fabulous views of the beaches, the bay and the city from the top and usually a few capuchin monkeys playing in the trees.

Day 13

Today will be free for you to explore Rio de Janeiro independently before in the early evening a driver will transfer you back to the airport for your flight home.
