Fly to Rio de Janeiro t0 start your Brazil holiday where upon arrival you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. Flights to Rio from Europe generally arrive either in the early morning or late in the evening. The remainder of the day will be free for you to relax.
The Porto Bay Hotel has a great location and offers three room types; superior, deluxe and suites, all of which are immaculately presented and either have views of the bay or of the city. The restaurant in the hotel offers fabulous food but also a wonderful panoramic view over Copacabana beach whereas the Bar Limone is the perfect spot for a caipirinha or for a bit of dancing. Everyone will love the rooftop. Complete with pool and bar with superb views of Sugar Loaf and Copacabana beach this is a great place to spend a few hours, lazing in the sun or sipping cocktails as the sun goes down.
After breakfast you will be met by your private English speaking guide and depart for Corcovado to see the most famous of all images of Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The views from the top are breathtaking and make you realise why Rio is considered by many as the most beautiful city in the world. The afternoon will be then free for you to explore independently or relax on the beach.
This morning is at your leisure. Relax on one of the city’s many beaches, explore the historic centre, meander round the cobbled streets of Santa Teresa or amble around the Botanical gardens. The city has ample to keep you entertained for many a day. After a morning of exploring the historical centre perhaps treat yourself to high tea amidst the opulent elegance of the Confeitaria Colombo.
After lunch you will head off to explore Sugar Loaf Mountain. This granite rock is an iconic Rio landmark and from the top you’ll once again have the most wonderful views of the whole city, it’s beaches and a breathtaking view of Guanabara Bay. It’s a great place to watch the sun set over the city, sipping a caipirinha. The evening will then be free for you to relax.
Today you will be transferred back to the airport for a morning flight to Cuiabá in the heart of the northern Pantanal. On arrival you will be met by a driver and taken on a shared transfer into the Northern Pantanal. It’s a fabulous safari along the entire Transpantaneira Park Road, with several opportunities to photograph nature and wildlife. Check in, have an introduction tour, enjoy dinner and spend the night at the Lodge.
Built with an emphasis on comfort and harmony with the environment, the Araras Eco Lodge is located 132 km southwest of Cuiabá, the capital of the state of Mato Grosso. Reachable year-round, the lodge is nestled in the ecologically diverse and impeccably preserved Pantanal region. Guests at the lodge will have the opportunity to participate in first-class bird watching, trekking in pristine forests, canoeing, and horseback riding. There are also guided photo-safaris, sunrise and sunset hikes, and stunning views from tree-top lookout points. All activities are conducted with the assistance of expert bilingual naturalist guides. Today will be a full day dedicated to observing the Pantanal’s flora & fauna at the Araras Eco Lodge private reserve. After breakfast, the guide will lead you on a 2 to 3 hour horse ride through the grazing fields, woods and flood lands. Lunch at the lodge and then in the afternoon, join a hike to a different area of the reservation, allowing you to watch and learn about this ecosystem.
After breakfast, departure to the Clarinho River from where you can take a canoe and explore the river banks, mangroves and forest. With some luck, you can spot a family of ariranhas (giant otters) fishing, playing and teaching the babies to swim and fish, a family of capybaras or if you are really lucky the sighting of a jaguar.
There is the chance to fish for Piranhas, known for nibbling the bait off the hook without the fisherman noticing whilst Lambaris, another species of fresh water fish, are an easy catch and are delicious when barbecued. A picnic barbecue lunch will be prepared at the camp site. Return to the lodge at the end of the afternoon.
This morning you will be transferred back to Cuiabá airport to board a flight to the town of Alto Floresta in the south of the Amazon. On arrival you will be transferred to your lodge for the next 4 nights.
The incredible Cristalino Jungle lodge is an amazing property in a 29,000 acre private reserve, named by National Geographic as one of the best hotels in Brazil and certainly is the best hotel in Brazil for anyone who wants a birdwatching holiday to Brazil. The lodge plays an important role in conservation by protecting primary rainforest and contributing with important conservation projects in the Southern Brazilian Amazon. The lodge has a friendly restaurant with and for special meals there is a thatched roof patio where candlelit dinners are served. The property has a floating deck, perfect for lazing in the sunshine with steps down to the Cristalino river which is perfect for swimming or paddling along in the canoes and inflatable boats which are available for hire. The lodge has a 50 metre high Canopy Tower located in the middle of the Rainforest Reserve which allows you to view the rainforest below and is considered one of the most important in the Americas because of its location. Many birds and mammals that inhabit the canopies such as falcons, macaws, toucans, cotingas, monkeys and coxius can be seen from the tower. The lodge has three levels of accommodation; Standard and superior rooms as well as private bungalows. All are very comfortable with the bungalows offering that something little bit special. The Cristalino jungle lodge is a wonderful addition to any holiday to Brazil.

Canopy Tower and Ficus Trail
In the morning, hike towards the 50 metre Canopy Tower where you will be able to see the forest from above the canopy. Monkeys, macaws and several species of birds can be found here. Then, walk the Ficus Trail, where a giant Ficus Tree is found. In the afternoon, walk the Taboca Trail in an area with seasonally flooded forest, where many monkeys can be found.
In the morning, hike towards the Saleiro House – a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve. The soil here is naturally rich in minerals, and is often visited by large forest mammals such as the South American Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), Collared Peccary (Pecari tajacu), White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari), the Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactylaand) and the Southern Tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla). By the afternoon, boat trip up river and hike the remarkable Brazil Nut Trail in a region with enormous Brazil Nut Trees. On the way back it is possible to canoe or boat ride, watching the afternoon as you go down river.
Hike the “Sierra Trail
Boat trip in the morning and hike the “Sierra Trail”: a site with a low, drier and deciduous type of forest. This trail has beautiful viewpoints since it is located in a hilly landscape. Orchids are often found in this area. In the afternoon hike in the Teles Pires island, a place where parakeets, parrots, macaws and nesting wood storks can be seen.
This morning there will be a light hike on the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Following this you will be transferred back to Alta Floresta arriving arrive back in Alta Floresta in time for lunch before the transfer to the airport for a flight to Sao Paulo.
