Fly overnight to Manaus in the heart of the Amazon where upon arrival you will be met at the airport by an English speaking guide and taken to your hotel for the night. The remainder of the day will be free for you to relax and perhaps explore the nearby .

After breakfast you will be met by your private English speaking guide and depart to the river where you can board a seaplane flight to the Amazon making first a diversion to the east to see the amazing Meeting of the Waters, the spot where the muddy waters of the Solimões River and the black waters of the Negro River run side by side, without mixing, to form the great Amazonas River.
You will then fly back past Manaus and on to your Amazon lodge for the next 4 nights. The flight takes approximately an hour and your luggage will be transported by land to be there shortly after you arrive.

The next few days give you the opportunity to really get to know the Amazon. There will be a few early starts as you head out to explore the jungle on foot, visit the local communities and see the incredibly playful pink river dolphins. You will try your hand at piranha fishing, learn hunting techniques from the locals with the use of a bow and arrow and paddled down small streams in canoes in search of wildlife. The area is also such an amazing place simply to relax, listen to the neverending birdsong and forget about the world.

Today you will head back to Manaus in time for a flight to Cuiaba where on arrival an English speaking guide will take you to a hotel for the night. An overnight stop in Cuiaba is required to facilitate the onward connection to Alta Floresta.

This morning you will be transferred back to Cuiabá airport to board a flight to the town of Alta Floresta in the south of the Amazon. On arrival you will be transferred to your lodge for the next 4 nights.
The incredible Cristalino Jungle lodge is an amazing property in a 29,000 acre private reserve, named by National Geographic as one of the best hotels in Brazil and certainly is the best hotel in Brazil for anyone who wants a birdwatching holiday to Brazil. The lodge plays an important role in conservation by protecting primary rainforest and contributing with important conservation projects in the Southern Brazilian Amazon. The lodge has a friendly restaurant with and for special meals there is a thatched roof patio where candlelit dinners are served. The property has a floating deck, perfect for lazing in the sunshine with steps down to the Cristalino river which is perfect for swimming or paddling along in the canoes and inflatable boats which are available for hire. The lodge has a 50 metre high Canopy Tower located in the middle of the Rainforest Reserve which allows you to view the rainforest below and is considered one of the most important in the Americas because of its location. Many birds and mammals that inhabit the canopies such as falcons, macaws, toucans, cotingas, monkeys and coxius can be seen from the tower. Over the next few days you will be taken on a number of guided tours in the area surrounding the Cristalino Jungle Lodge such as those listed below;
Canopy Tower and Ficus Trail
In the morning, hike towards the 50 metre Canopy Tower where you will be able to see the forest from above the canopy. Monkeys, macaws and several species of birds can be found here. Then, walk the Ficus Trail, where a giant Ficus Tree is found. In the afternoon, walk the Taboca Trail in an area with seasonally flooded forest, where many monkeys can be found.
In the morning, hike towards the Saleiro House – a rustic tree house located in the middle of the forest reserve. The soil here is naturally rich in minerals, and is often visited by large forest mammals such as the South American Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), Collared Peccary (Pecari tajacu), White-lipped Peccary (Tayassu pecari), the Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactylaand) and the Southern Tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla). By the afternoon, boat trip up river and hike the remarkable Brazil Nut Trail in a region with enormous Brazil Nut Trees. On the way back it is possible to canoe or boat ride, watching the afternoon as you go down river.
Hike the “Sierra Trail
Boat trip in the morning and hike the “Sierra Trail”: a site with a low, drier and deciduous type of forest. This trail has beautiful viewpoints since it is located in a hilly landscape. Orchids are often found in this area. In the afternoon hike in the Teles Pires island, a place where parakeets, parrots, macaws and nesting wood storks can be seen.
This morning there will be a light hike on the Tapiri Trail, where the White-whiskered-spider-monkey (Atelis marginatus), symbol of Cristalino State Park, can be seen. Following this you will be transferred back to Alta Floresta arriving arrive back in Alta Floresta in time for lunch before the transfer to the airport for a flight to Sao Paulo.
On arrival in Sao Paulo you will be met by a private guide and transferred to your hotel for the night. An overnight stop in Sao Paulo is required to facilitate the onward connection to Campo Grande.

This morning your guide will transfer you to the domestic airport for a flight to Campo Grande, the gateway to the southern Pantanal. On arrival you will be collected by a private guide and taken to the best lodge in the Pantanal, roughly a 3 hour drive. Here you can stay for the next 4 nights.
Alternatively it is possible to fly into the Pantanal by private plane.
Caiman Ecological Refuge is located on a 53 thousand hectare ranch is a wonderful destination. The property has two lodges, the Baiazinha Lodge and the Cordilheira Lodge which are spread 22kms apart. The Baiazinha Lodge is a bird-shaped house, located on the shores of a lake, with 6 standard rooms decorated in traditional ranch style. The Cordilheira Lodge has 5 double suites, decorated in contemporary style. Each of these has a separate bedroom and living room, bathroom, powder room and balcony. During the next few days you will enjoy a number of activities which will include walking tours, photo safaris and night safaris. You will see a wide variety of wildlife and birdlife as well as learning about life on a working farm.
All excursions are led by bilingual guides who have a deep knowledge of local nature and regional culture.
The lodge offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities and due to the location of the lodge many of our clients are lucky enough to see jaguars, even outside of the dry season.
In this itinerary we have included a whole day and evening jaguar experience. You will spend a full day and evening with the Jaguar Habituation Team, getting involved with them as they go about their daily activities and search for the elusive jaguar. The team spends a vast amount of time searching for the jaguars themselves as well as looking for clues that will point them in the right direction when the sun sets and the jaguar becomes active nocturnally. They will check previously set camera traps, check data from satellites that follow the collared jaguars and even search them via a receiver. You may have a chance to experience tracking on foot with the expertly trained trackers, to see first-hand the pictures taken and experience the technology available. Once a sign of the animals is found they will attempt to locate it so that you and your group can be a part of the amazing experience. More often than not it is possible to find the approximate location of the cats during the day which increases the chances of finding them at night. Depending on the circumstances, you will set out at sunset or just after dinner in order to see the jaguars. You will also be given a presentation on the work of the Project and the aims of our team.
During this day all meals will be served at your lodge and you will have time to relax and recover after lunch before starting the afternoon tour.
Following a private transfer to the airport, today you will wave goodbye to Brazil and board a flight back to the UK after what will have been an unforgettable luxury wildlife tour to Brazil.
