This active Brazil holiday showcases one of Brazil’s best destinations for adventure activities and trekking as well as amazing wildlife and the most beautiful city in the world. The rarely visited Chapada dos Veadeiros with its waterfalls and beautiful landscapes, the incredible flora and fauna of the northern Pantanal plus the marvellous city that is Rio de Janeiro make this itinerary a diverse and action packed holiday to Brazil and all in under two weeks.
Start your Brazil holiday with a flight to the capital, Brasilia where upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to Sao Jorge, one of the gateways to the Chapada dos Veadeiros and to your hotel.
In the afternoon you will be taken with an English speaking guide to visit to Vale da Lua (Moon Valley), an extraordinary moon-scape of rock sculpted by the force of the Sao Miguel River, great for photographs. Dinner will be included this evening in Sao Jorge.
Located in large, mature gardens the Pousada Bagua is a new property with just 4 guest rooms. The rooms are spacious, independent wooden chalets with open plan bedroom, living room and shower room with separate double vanity unit and a mini bar. There is a large outdoor balcony and hammock to take a siesta and enjoy the peace of the gardens. The main lodge boasts a panoramic view of the National Park of Chapada dos Veadeiros and houses a comfortable lounge and open air restaurant where a buffet breakfast is served. Lunch, evening meal and drinks are also served here.
Today you will be joined once again by your private English speaking guide and trek the trail to the Rio Preto Falls. This is one of the highlights of the Chapada dos Veadeiros and a favoured image on postcards. The trek is about 10km and of medium to hard in nature and along the way it is possible to see the various special ecosystems of the Brazilian savannah and the quartz mines. A packed lunch will be included. Before returning to Sao Jorge you will enjoy a visit to the relaxing hot springs at nearby Agua Quente. Dinner will be included this evening in Sao Jorge.
After breakfast you will walk into Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park once again visiting what are known as Canyon I and II. These are canyons with large stone walls and along the way there are pools to swim in. You will walk in total roughly 10km again and all the way to the Cariocas Waterfall where the Rio Preto tumbles down 30m and into a pool. Lunch is once again provided. When the walk finishes and you return to Sao Jorge and dinner will be once again included this evening.
This morning you will be transferred to the eastern border of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. You will climb the ridge to the top of the Serra Geral do Parana, at an altitude of 3,500 ft (1,500m), with fantastic views to the edge of the Chapada and into the Vao do Parana valley far below. After a short drive you will walk along the river valley in which the Rio Macaquinho has carved deep canyons of quartz rock and where great waterfalls of green plunge into natural swimming pools. You will stop for a picnic lunch, see the two waterfalls, Canion da Pedra Furada and Caverna, and then descend into the entrance of a 120 ft (40m) canyon at which the Dois Saltos waterfall marks the merging of the Macaquinho and Fundao rivers.
Tonight you will enjoy an early dinner, a tasty home-cooked meal at the Santuario das Pedras farm before returning to Sao Jorge.
The Macaquinho river is one of the best places for canyoning in Brazil through a 2 km long stretch with four abseiled descents including an abseil down through a ring of rock, at the Pedra Furada waterfall, and over both rock and waterfall. Along the way you will pass through deep canyons with narrow walls, great swimming pools and water slides, all the way to the Caverna waterfall at which you will abseil down 120 ft (40 m) into a clear natural pool of water. Such an activity can be arranged locally.
