The Fazenda Catuçaba is a perfect rural hideaway, nestled amongst the hills between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It’s situated within 30 minutes from the historical town of São Luiz do Paraitinga, it makes the perfect ‘getaway from it all’ property and fits in perfectly on a holiday in Brazil between it’s two biggest cities and in combination with the beaches of the Costa Verde.
Fazenda means farm in Portuguese and Catuçaba functions today as an organic farm and 450 hectare coffee plantation. It is situated close to the Mata Atlantica rainforest, a UNESCO world heritage site and a beautiful ecosystem. The local area has been incorporated into the design and décor of the fazenda at every opportunity. The design dates back to the forties and fifties and uses local, precious wood, although the house itself was originally built in 1850.
The property comprises of 10 double ensuite rooms or 5 villas that can be hired. The focus is very much on simple elegance and total peace and harmony and as such there are no TVs or internet access and there is no mobile signal. However, the finishing touches are what make this hotel so special. There are many works of art, produced by the various artists in residence who regularly come to stay at the fazenda for peace and inspiration.
The 10 ensuite classic rooms are equipped with king size beds, Egyptian cotton bed linen and unique fireplaces and black stone baths. For those looking for something more private in their accommodation there are various options of villas ranging from the ‘master’, through rustic to ‘designer’. Many are original buildings from the 1800s, some facing the lake for swimming, or with waterfalls nearby. The designer villas, new for 2013 combine cutting edge design with spectacular views and complete intimacy.
The food in the restaurant is made from organic ingredients, much of which is sourced from the farm and the local area.
The hotel is set up to cater to all tastes, whether you want to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity or you are looking for something more adventurous. The numerous activities in the area such as trekking, horse riding, rafting and bird watching mean you will never be short of things to do. What better way to relax than with a caipirinha in hand, watching the sun set over the rolling hills?
It’s perfect for families or couples looking to get away from it all whilst on holiday in Brazil.
