The rarely known national park that is Chapada dos Veadeiros is a stunning destination and perfect for those trying to escape the tourist trail in an unspoilt area of nature.
It is also the brightest point on earth when seen from space due to the large deposits of quartz which are found in the ground here.
The park is roughly twice the size of Chapada Diamantina and a UNESCO World Heritage site and justifiably so. The park is covered in cerrado with deep gorges and some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Brazil. Rare animals and birds are found in the park but the main reason people visit is because it offers some of the most fantastic trekking in Brazil as well as other adventure activities such as abseiling.
Just outside of the park are some wonderful sights too, most notably the incredible Vale da Lua, a shallow canyon shaped by the river into wonderful shapes making for great photography. For visitors to the park the places to stay are either Sao Jorge or Alto Paraiso both of which offer good accommodation options.
The Chapada dos Veadeiros offers a great option for trekking in Brazil and combines well with a visit to Brasilia and the northern Pantanal to make a wonderfully diverse holiday to Brazil.
