This sample Brazil holiday, as its name suggests, focuses on one of Brazil’s most famous sights, the mighty Amazon River and rainforest. This itinerary will immerse you in a week of Amazon exploration but in highly comfortable surrounds aboard the M/Y Tucano as it sails along the Amazon River and its tributaries. If this is your first visit to Brazil then it isn’t complete without a stopover in the incredible city of Rio de Janeiro which makes this itinerary a fabulous mix of nature and the city, not forgetting a beach or two we could mention in Rio!

Day 1 – Fly overnight to Brazil

An overnight flight from the UK will land early into Sao Paulo where you can catch an onward connecting flight to the Amazon.

Day 2 – Manaus

On arrival into Sao Paulo you will need to clear customs and immigration and drop your luggage at the transit desk. You will need to make the short walk to the connecting terminal 2 for a flight to the heart of the Amazon, to the city of Manaus. On arrival you will be collected by an English speaking guide and taken to your hotel for the night before your Amazon exploration begins tomorrow.

Days 3 – 5 Amazon Exploration

This morning your guide will transfer you to the port so you can board the well equipped expedition boat, The Motor Yacht Tucano. From Manaus you will set off to explore far up the least inhabited river in the Amazon, The Rio Negro. You will explore the forest by foot or in small launches, go swimming in the cleanest water in the world, visit with local settlers that live deep in the forest, and spend a great deal of time searching for and observing the greatest collection of wildlife on earth.

The Motor Yacht Tucano offers a comfortable, intimate and fun experience. The vessel has a wonderful salon surrounded by a broad balcony. Thoroughly panelled and lighted by brass lamps, this room serves as the library and dining room. The top deck is open and has a large sun canopy which is a wonderful place to spot wildlife or soak in the vastness of the Amazon. There is a good standard of food on board with the cooks on board making fabulous dishes out of the local produce. There are 9 air-conditioned passenger cabins on board each of which has a private bathroom with a toilet, sink and pressurized hot water showers and all have large windows with insect screens, though generally there are very very few mosquitoes on our voyage.

Day 6 – Amazon Exploration

You will arrive at extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi and spend the day in this unspoiled and lovely rainforest area.

Day 7 – Amazon Exploration

Today your will journey proceed down the south-western bank of the Rio Negro on this Brazilian holiday observing the different wildlife found on this side of the river. Your walks and explorations of the forest continue and your list of creatures observed hopefully gets larger and larger!

Day 8 – Amazon Exploration

This morning you visit the Lago Janauari Ecological Park where the thick brown water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. This area is thick with life and you are almost guaranteed to see monkeys. You will then travel to the Encontra das Aguas the stark several mile long line where the world’s two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom which is a wonderful sight to behold. In the evening you will return to Manaus and spend the night on the boat.

Day 9 – Fly to Rio de Janeiro

This morning you will arrive back to Manaus where a guide will transfer you to the airport for a flight to Rio de Janeiro. Upon arrival you will be met by an English speaking driver who will take you to your hotel for the next 3 nights.

The Praia Ipanema Hotel is one of our favourites. Situated on the beach front at Ipanema, every room in the hotel faces the beach with its own private balcony offering a high standard of service. The hotel offers four levels of accommodation all of which are immaculately presented; Standard, Deluxe, Deluxe Master and Suites. If you don’t want to wander far for food then the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, looking out on Ipanema beach has fine Brazilian and international cuisine. On the terrace the Bossa Nova Bar and rooftop pool offer wonderful views along the length of Ipanema beach and the perfect place to chill out.

Day 10 – Rio de Janeiro

After breakfast you will be met by your private English speaking guide and depart for Corcovado to see the most famous of all images of Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The views from the top are breathtaking and make you realise why Rio is considered by many as the most beautiful city in the world. After some time at the top to fully appreciate the city you will head to a traditional churrascaria to taste a typical Brazilian lunch.

After lunch you will head off to explore Sugar Loaf Mountain. This granite rock is an iconic Rio landmark and from the top you’ll once again have the most wonderful views of the whole city, its beaches and a breathtaking view of Guanabara Bay. It’s a great place to watch the sun set over the city, sipping a caipirinha. The evening will then be free for you to relax.

Day 11 – Rio de Janeiro

Today is free for you to enjoy at your leisure. Relax on one of the city’s many beaches, explore the historic centre, meander round the cobbled streets of Santa Teresa or amble around the Botanical gardens. The city has ample to keep you entertained for many a day.

Day 12 – Fly home

This evening you will be transferred back to the international airport, wave goodbye to Brazil and board a flight back to the UK after what will have been an unforgettable holiday.
