This 2 week Brazil holiday highlights three of Bahia’s jewels and is perfect for anyone looking for a mix of culture, trekking and beach activities on a holiday to Brazil. The itinerary starts in the city of Salvador, a colonial and historical gem, followed by a few days in the Chapada Diamantina for fabulous trekking and finishing on the Marau Peninsula which is perfect for relaxation with a variety of activities on offer.
On the first day of your Brazil holiday after a flight from the UK you will arrive in Salvador, the principal city in the state of Bahia where upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel and the remainder of the day will be free for you.
Situated in the heart of the Pelourinho and in the Largo do Cruzeiro de São Francisco with its beautiful church lies the Hotel Villa Bahia, two former colonial homes which have been transformed into one of the most elegant hotels in Salavador. A wonderful place to stay. The beautiful Hotel Villa Bahia is perhaps our favourite in the city. The Villa is comprised of two adjoining 17th and 18th century colonial homes, remnants of the Portuguese era. Villa Bahia is overlooking the colourful facades of Pelourinho, the seventeen rooms of the hotel have been carefully renovated to preserve their original design. The hotel is really wonderful creating an authentic colonial atmosphere, enhanced by two garden courtyards, a refreshing plunge pool and a panoramic terrace. Not only this, each of the rooms have air conditioning, TV and DVD player, Wi-Fi and a safe. All of the rooms are unique and they contain their own charm such as high ceilings and four poster beds, our favourite room is Madagascar.
Today you will be met by a private speaking English guide for a half day tour of Salvador. You will head to the Pelourinho, an important historical area and a symbol of the black movement in Bahia. The Pelourinho is home to important churches, museums, Brazilian artists’ studios, galleries, shops and restaurants. Your guide will explain to you the significance of the area as you walk around the city with time to visit all the main sights of interest before a stop for lunch. You will head down the Elevador Lacerda, dating back to 1873 which connects the upper town to downtown and is an important way of transportation for tourists and residents. From the top there is a great view of All Saints Bay. You will finally head to the Mercado Modelo, the most important regional market of the area before returning to your hotel and the remainder of the day will be at your leisure.
Today is free for you to relax by the pool or explore more of Salvador. We can offer a number of other tours of Salvador, out to the beaches or even cooking classes. Talk to us about other options.
This morning you will be transferred back to the airport and board a short flight to the small town of Lencois, the gateway to the national park of Chapada Diamantina. On arrival you will be met by a private driver and taken to your chosen hotel. In the afternoon you will be met by an English speaking guide and taken to the most photographed area of Chapada Diamantina, the top of Pai Ignacio hill, fabulous for picture perfect sunsets. Your guide will return you to your hotel and the evening will be free for you to explore the lovely cobbled streets of Lencois.
The Hotel Canto das Aguas is the finest hotel in Lencois. Situated next to the Lencois river it combines a great location with a excellent standard of accommodation. The hotel has a variety of rooms with the standard rooms facing the gardens and offering air conditioning, minibar, safe and LCD cable TV whereas the suites offer a higher level of comfort including the beautifully spacious Encanto Suite. The hotel has a very good restaurant offering Brazilian and international cuisine plus a number of leisure facilities including a great pool, massage area and sauna. If you are not into trekking it’s still a wonderful hotel to relax in, lazing in a hammock by the river or in the pool.
Today you will begin one of the most beautiful treks in Brazil, through the Pati Valley. The Pati Valley is a rare area of natural beauty in Brazil. The route from Guiné to Andaraí, passes through rarely explored waterfalls and cerrado whilst allowing interaction with the isolated natives of the region. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Povoado do Guiné from where you will start a 17km trek through beautiful scenery. You will stop for lunch and spend the rest of the day walking until you reach your stop for the night. There are no hotels inside the park so accommodation for the evening will be in the house of a local allowing to you truly sample local culture and home cooking before calling it a night.
After breakfast you will continue your trek through the Pati valley to further local accommodation, roughly 12km in distance. How strenuous you want the trek to be will be up to you with different routes possible between the start and finish point. All meals are included.
Today you will wake up early and trek some 16kms to the end of the Pati valley trail, arriving in Andaraí in the afternoon where a jeep will be waiting for you. After a 50 minute drive the jeep will take you to the Poço Azul (the Blue Pool) which is an underground pool inside a cave where you can swim in the crystal waters. It provides a great spot to cool off from the heat of the Chapada and is a unique place. Following lunch you will be transported to the small town of Xique-Xique de Igatu, a former mining village where you will spend the night in your chosen accommodation. Dinner tonight is not included but the pousadas all have good options.
Igatu has very limited accommodation options however The Pousada Pedras de Igatu is a real diamond find. It has 14 simply designed but comfortable and spacious rooms which look out into a beautiful valley. The pousada offers a pool and a sauna to rest your weary legs and the garden area is a lovely spot to sit and relax with a caipirinha in hand as the sun sets. The pousada offers excellent Brazilian food, a small bar area as well as a sitting room for reading and relaxation.
This morning you will be transferred back to Lencois, which is roughly a ninety minute drive, and board a flight back to Salvador. On arrival in Salvador you will be collected by an English speaking driver and taken to the Marau peninsula and to your chosen hotel.
